Interdepartmental Studies majors have the advantage
of being able to select from all courses offered at
SIU ACS and also at the five other SIU campuses
offering this degree. Courses selected must relate
to a major offered by Schiller International
University.
Students may develop an Interdepartmental Studies
major only after successfully completing the
freshman year. It is important to note that students
intending to continue their studies at graduate
level are advised NOT to choose
Interdepartmental Studies as many graduate
institutions require a standard program of
undergraduate study with a declared departmental
major.
This is the most flexible of all the degrees offered
at SIU ACS. After a student has satisfied the 6
credits needed to complete ENG 111 and 112, he or
she is able to choose General Education Electives
for the remaining 118 credits.
The student’s supervising faculty member must be
expert in at least one of the subject areas involved
in the program of study. The faculty member and
student then prepare a tentative outline of courses
to submit to the SIU ACS Academics Committee for
approval. Once approved, it is placed in the
student’s permanent file. |
