Internship
The internship is an
integral part of the academic programmes at SHMS. For
many students, it is their first experience working in
the hospitality industry and in an international
environment.
The internships are arranged and monitored by the
Internship Office at SHMS. The internship is usually
completed in hotels, restaurants or other suitable
outlets. Students are usually required to move to
another city or region of Switzerland for their
employment during this period.
Students who complete their
internship in Switzerland are paid a salary at current
industry trainee rates. Accommodation is usually
provided by the employer during this period.
Alternatively, students rent and share an apartment. The
gross salary is approximately CHF 2,060 to CHF 2,450 per
month (less deductions for food, taxes, accommodation,
insurance is approximately CHF 1,000 to CHF 1,400 net
per month). Over
the course of the internship, students are visited by an
SHMS Internship Officer and assessed by their employer.
Students must successfully complete their internship to
pass their programme at SHMS.
Internship Abroad
Students may also complete
their internship in other countries. The selected
employer and position must be approved by the School.
The salary will vary depending on the chosen country.
The SHMS Internship Office can also offer many contacts
for internships abroad.
Graduate Placement Service
SHMS prides itself on its
graduate placement services. SHMS runs a fulltime
Placement Office, which assists students to find
opportunities for employment after graduation.
SHMS has links to some of the finest hotels around the
World for job placements.
SHMS graduates are found all over the World in
employment. After graduation, many elect to start their
careers in the USA, completing management training
programmes in selected 5 star hotels, while others take
up fulltime employment in many of the newer hotels in
Asia and the Middle East or the more traditional hotels
of Europe. Whatever the preference, the Placement
Officer at SHMS will give the best advice for each
individual student. |
